The Safety and Health Coordinator is a member of the WestRock-Covington Safety and Health Team. This position provides Safety & Health technical consulting support and leadership to the Covington Mill, to ensure sustainable compliance and reduce the frequency and severity of occupational injuries and illnesses and associated workers’ compensation costs.

How you will impact WestRock:

Provide leadership to help in the development, implementation and maintenance of procedures and programs designed to create a Zero Injury Culture.Support the implementation of the WestRock Annual Safety and Health Strategy to achieve a Zero Injury CulturePlans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulationsSupport to the Hazard Recognition & Control Processes that identify and control physical hazards through on-site inspectionsPrepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agenciesInspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implementedLeads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigationsWorks with the Nurse to track all activity for the facility related to lost work time, return to work initiatives, and restricted duty provisionProvides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditionsProvides tactical oversight of specific programs such as Mobile Equipment, Lock Out Tag Out, incident investigation, risk assessment and required medical surveillance programsKeeps current on specific requirements imposed by governmental agencies through review of the current and/or proposed statutes, regulations, licenses, and permitsMaintains a working knowledge on the scientific and technical aspects of various regulatory requirements and how they may impact the sites

What you need to succeed:

Bachelor’s Degree is in Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or similar technical discipline with some heavy industry experiencePreferred: 1 – 3 years heavy industry experienceEHS experience in Manufacturing: planning and implementing Health & Safety programs in a manufacturing environmentExperience with regulatory compliance, incident investigation, and safety engineeringLanguage Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present training in a clear and understandable manner; able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondenceExcellent organizational skills – able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Strong analytical and problem solving skillsAbility to work independently as a part of a teamComputer Skills - knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing softwareSome weekend call duty and support for production outage.Up to 10% travel may be required
