The Opportunity

The Senior Director, Employee Communications, reports to the chief communications officer and leads the development and implementation of strategic employee communications for WestRock. This role partners with human resources and leadership to inform and engage employees about the company’s vision, values, purpose and culture, and aligns communications with the company’s strategic goals and progress.

How You will impact WestRock

  • Lead the employee communications practice, providing expertise and advice to partners within various corporate and business groups.
  • Develop and lead the execution of the strategy to produce high-impact employee communications.
  • Act as the primary liaison with Human Resources for the development of communications materials across the platform, aligning performance management, talent development and total rewards communications with the company’s engagement efforts.
  • Oversee the development of all-company communications related to general employee education and engagement, including content for intranet and other communications vehicles.
  • Partner effectively with the content team to ensure internal and external communications are aligned.
  • Proactively seek new methods, tools and channels to communicate, as well as new ways to more effectively use existing methods, tools and channels.
  • Advise leaders on strategic change management/communication plans for the introduction of new programs, benefits and services.

What You need for success

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field, along with 12 years of demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering communications strategies and plans
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication program; expertise in communications concepts, practices, strategies and tactics based on understanding of key audiences and corporate objectives. Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
  • Experience in building, mentoring and coaching a team of communications professionals
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management
